Virgin Australia’s new checked luggage rules, recently introduced alongside the airline’s move to the Sabre booking system, could catch a few travellers unaware.

The big change here is the economy allowance: a reduction when flying on the cheapest tickets, and needing to spread weight over more bags when on Saver or Flexi fares.
Gold members should also focus on economy fares: again, you have less weight when buying the cheapest fares, but two smaller bags instead of one large bag on Saver or Flexi tickets.
Good news for Silvers: you get an extra bag when on a Saver or Flexi fare.
Velocity Red and non-Velocity members
There’s no real change for Red members: the only difference is that Saver Lite is the new fare without bags, while Saver is the new cheaper fare with a bag.
Passengers without Velocity Frequent Flyer status have the same allowances as Velocity Red members.
Virgin Australia is now accepting payment through PayPal. This latest move makes the airline an inch closer to offering its guests another option to pay for its tickets.
With the fast pace of the internet these days, many people opt to use PayPal as a more secure mode of payment compared to paying through your Credit Cards online or by cash at the ticketing office or travel agents.

Virgin Australia frequent flyers can now look forward to collect more miles with their Velocity Rewards when they make a booking in many of the restaurants throughout Australia-wide.
The airline launched this ‘eat-and-earn’ partnership with bookarestaurant.com. The programme allows Velocity members to earn 300 points for each booking made through the special page.
Currently the website runs a promotion that allows Velocity members to earn 500 points for each booking made and dine before 31st July 2012.
The website is linked to a special reservation management system that is directly linked to all restaurants that have an available table on bookarestaurant.com. Once the reservation is being made, the system will then communicate with the restaurant and a return confirmation email will be sent to the booker (diner).
